Cambrian Innovation
Clean water & clean energy, from wastewater.
Description
Cambrian Innovation is a water treatment solutions company that focuses on transforming wastewater into clean water and renewable energy, enabling clients in resource recovery, energy circularity, and environmental responsibility. It offers several wastewater treatment infrastructure options, which leverage biological processes and microbes to naturally break down organic pollutants in the wastewater, making it cleaner and safer for release and reuse. Its flagship offering, the EcoVolt system, utilizes bioelectrically-active microbes which do not only treat wastewater but also produce electricity, reducing reliance on conventional energy sources. All infrastructure is remotely connected and operated via its AVEVA Insight managed cloud solution, which gathers, stores, visualizes, and analyzes plant performance.
What Makes it Regenerative?
- supports ecosystem remedation
- enables circularity
- supports material sourcing
- support human wellbeing
- supports renewables
Business Model
Cambrian Innovation generates revenue from both infrastructure sales/installation projects as well as through its "as-a-service" offering. It designs and engineers custom wastewater treatment systems based on each client's specific needs and industry and charges for equipment, materials, and labor associated with the installation process. Alternatively, they offer a Water-Energy Purchase Agreement (WEPA) option, in which Cambrian will design, construct, install, own, manage, and operate the client's treatment system requiring no capital investment, with clients paying for performance on a per gallon basis. This model involves consultation, system operations, performance monitoring, optimization, maintenance, and management with a recurring suscription fee.
Risks & Limitations
- Microbial and bioelectric technologies are a relatively new approach in industrial environments.the effectiveness of their systems in treating various types of wastewater with complex contaminants needs to be continuously monitored and evaluated, and may require specialized skills.
- Economic viability, and the time it takes for cost savings from water reuse or energy generation to offset the initial investment, which may deter large industrials
